In the Greater Scheme of Things, We Are Pretty Insignificant

This series of work entitled “ In the greater scheme of things, we are pretty insignificant” merely started as a visual project. In it I was attempting to explore the relationship between a person and large empty or wide-open spaces. The aim was to portray a sense of loneliness.

Except that when I took a step back and examined my final images, the first thing I thought was “ wow the person looks so small”. I had placed a person in each scene but it was as if they weren’t there. They were somewhat insignificant, Hence the name for the series.

Afterwards, I started to think about how in every photograph the person disappears into the landscape or background. Then it just sort of hit me, how ironic that humans think they are superior to mostly everything except God. Yet, here we are, placed in the world where we live surrounded by things that we have created and yet as individuals we are but a small spec in the greater scheme of things.

However, this “meaning” that I have placed on these images was purely accidental and this series was merely intended to be visually satisfying. So, take these images however you would like and place whatever meaning on them that you wish to.

Or not.

It’s up to you.
